While staying on Amalfi Coast,
also named the 'Divine Costiera', tourists can choose many
locations to explore the surroundings. Towns and villages
like Naples, Pompeii, Paestum, Ravello, Amalfi or Positano
sound like music in everybody's ears. It is possible to go
by ferry to the isles of Capri, Ischia and Procida,
or reach by car Sorrento, Pompeii and Herculaneum to
visit their worlwide famous excavations and to hike on the
Vesuvius, the volcano that buried the latters in 79 A.D..
For those who like Greek culture it is possible to spend
a day in the ancient Greek towns Paestum and Velia,
or to enjoy sea and unspoiled nature in the Natural National
Parc of Cilento, visiting Palinuro,
Pisciotta, Centola and Sapri,
among the others.
But there also is a the less known Amalfi Coast, ideal for
trekking. There are mountain paths originally used by pilgrims
and merchants which are still in excellent condition which

FROM AMALFI COAST TO POMPEII ...
Pompeii is one of the most fascinating, interesting and
important archaeological sites of the world. The historian
Plinius writes that on the morning of August 24th 79 A.D.
a great earthquake shook the ground, followed by a tremendous
bang caused by the explosion of the peak of Mt. Vesuvius.
This famou eruption caused the end of Pompeii and Heckulaneum.
FROM AMALFI COAST TO PAESTUM AND VELIA
Paestum and Velia were the most important towns of Magna
Graecia. Paestum became famous thanks to three magnificent
Doric temples built by Greek colonisers ...In 600 B.C. the
Greeks founded this town with the name "Poseidonia",
and later the Romans called it "Paestum". The 3
temples that are still in good condition, the Hera-temple
I (Poseidon-temple), the Hera-temple II (Basilica) and the
Ceres-temple. Velia was an important port of the whole Magna
Grecia and the cradle of civilization and philosophy.
FROM AMALFI COAST TO NAPLES
Naples is the capital of the region of Campania. It is the
third largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan. It has
been founded by the Greeks in the 8th century B.C. with the
mane 'Parthenope' and a few centuries later, in the 5th and
6th century B.C. the town was called “Napolis”.
In Naples there are three city gates Porta Capuana, Porta
Nolana, Port’Alba and Porta San Gennaro, all built
between the 15th and 17th century, and many are the monuments
and districts worth to be seen: Vomero,
the district of town that was built on the hill; Chiaia-San
Ferdinando-Posillipo, the district with many flowers
and parks, also called the “green district”with
the fishing harbor Santa Lucia; Castel
dell'Ovo, the castle on a small island right off
the coast; Castelnuovo, the majestic castle
from the year 1279, the Royal Palast and Piazza Plebiscito,
from where you can admire the Sorrento Coast and the Vesuvius
on its back, and much more.
FROM AMALFI COAST TO SORRENTO
In the charming fisher port of Sorrento, Marina
Grande, you will find delicious meals in the "Trattorie".
One of the main reasons that Sorrento and Amalfi Coast
became famous are the lemon plantations and lemons are
used for 'imoncello', a delicious lemon liqeur.
FROM AMALFI COAST TO CAPRI
Ferries and speed boats go to and from the island numerous
times daily and stop in the picturesque little port Marina
Grande. Buses and taxis will take you wherever you like:
to Marina Grande, Marina Piccola, Capri or or Anacapri, to
see the gardens of Augustus or the Villa San Michele, the
'Faraglioni', the famous square ' Piazzetta' (officially
called Piazza Umberto I), the heart of Capri.On the northwestern
side of the island you can take a boat to see the famous
'Grotta Azzurra', the blue grotto.
